Skyway Behavioral Health | Downers Grove
As a Chicago interior designer specializing in behavioral health environments, Epic Interiors designed Skyway’s 25,000-square-foot Downers Grove facility as a space where clinical innovation and human experience are equally prioritized. Building on prior collaborations, this project represents a more refined evolution of Epic’s healthcare design approach, creating an environment that feels sophisticated, welcoming, and deeply supportive of both patients and staff. From the moment of entry, the space is designed to feel calm and grounding, balancing clean, modern lines with warmth, texture, and light.
A defining feature of the facility is its dedicated Spravato® treatment suite, where Epic Interiors carefully designed a sequence of spaces that guide patients through treatment with dignity and ease. From gallery-like corridors to low-stimulation treatment rooms and thoughtfully planned integration spaces, every detail supports comfort, safety, and emotional processing. Innovative materials, including Celliant® performance upholstery, were incorporated to enhance physical comfort and well-being, reflecting Epic’s commitment to integrating design with emerging wellness technologies.
Art plays a central role in shaping the experience of the space. A curated program of more than 100 artworks introduces rhythm, color, and meaning throughout the facility, transforming corridors into gallery-like environments and reinforcing themes of healing, resilience, and connection. Carefully considered placement and scale support wayfinding while creating moments of pause and reflection, demonstrating Epic’s belief that art is not an accessory but an essential component of therapeutic design.
Throughout the project, Epic Interiors balanced innovation with responsibility, incorporating sustainable strategies such as reusing existing casework and refining original architectural elements. Collaborative spaces equipped for hybrid work further support Skyway’s integrated care model, fostering connection across teams and locations. The result is a thoughtfully designed behavioral health environment where compassion meets craftsmanship, and where every detail contributes to a greater sense of safety, dignity, and healing.
